Fabric touch tester

The innovative FTT measures skin touch properties of textiles objectively and quantitatively. The comprehensive, sophisticated design of the FTT enables it to measure all the mechanical and surface properties of fabric in one simple test. Previously only possible on the very expensive and technically complicated Kawabata instruments, the FTT now makes hand measurement possible for everyone. In just a five minute test the FTT measures:

  • Thickness
  • Compression
  • Bending
  • Roughness
  • Friction
  • Thermal Properties

These provide 18 indices for each side of the fabric, in both warp and weft directions, which are used to predict the subjective primary sensory indices (PSI) of hand feel and touch feel: Smoothness, Softness, Warmth and Total Hand/Touch Feel. These objective measurements are valuable tools for product research and development. They can also be transferred to the QC Evaluation Software to create an electronic standard against which different lots of production fabrics can be measured. Much as a spectrophotometer is used for color, the FTT can measure, communicate, and compare fabric hand through a global supply chain.
